Never did watch Yu-Gi-Oh but that's not going to stop me from having opinions on it and reading fanfiction you can't stop me. I have a warrant
I need to come clean about something: I'm not a long-time fan. I didn't watch Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid, I was more into the Pokemon franchise and I was only aware of competing card games as an abstract. According to my bonafide Yu-Gi-Oh expert friend, I may be the only person in the universe who got into Yu-Gi-Oh in 2023.
I am a terrible fan who had no qualms about engaging in fandom before reading/watching the source material: the tagline of the Yu-Gi-Oh blog I started for shits and giggles was "I've never watched it and I never will" or something along those lines -- and I really didn't plan to. It took me about a month to cave, and I'm pretty sure it started when aforementioned Yu-Gi-Oh expert mentioned a fic that she'd read as it was coming out. She sent me a link and said "read it", and like an absolute fool, I did.
Again, I didn't plan to read more than a chapter. I ended up finishing the 219k monstosity -- for a fandom I wasn't even in -- in record time. I'm pretty sure this was the point of no return.

My original intro here said "I have never watched Yu-Gi-Oh and I never will" and then the next day I started GX. So.
My sleuthing dictates that this means I started GX on either September 4th (according to my blog) or September 8th (according to my Anilist)
Judai's hair looks like someone got halfway through a bowl cut before realizing that his hair had too much volume to continue so they simply gave up most of the way through.
I hate this fandom so much. My biggest post of all time is a screenshot from GX. What did I do to deserve this.
